Places like this always make me wonder how the art, craft and artisanship of men have come to decline over the centuries. Here, you've got a whole cave full of statues, carvings and pillars hewn out of solid rock and you just wonder how they must have looked when they were freshly carved -- and to think the artists must've been chiselling away with nothing but natural light right where you're standing with a cameraphone in your hand -- it's amazing.
One stray thought came to my mind -- these caves are like 1 to 2 thousand years old. We're looking at them with awe -- thinking these were built a thousand years ago. The Pyramids are I believe almost five thousand years old -- so compared to how old these caves are to us -- those pyramids would've been even older to the cave carvers. Would the carvers, if they saw the pyramids, think that the standard of the art of things made by human hands only have declined?
Ranted too much meaninglessly -- sorry.
